PIPELINE DELUMPER solves process problem
for NC meat processor.
As
part of their meat processing system, a Maxton, NC meat processor
used a 200 psi pipeline system to convert meat solids into a smooth
processed meat product.
The problem was that lumps consisting
of powders, oils and deboned ground chicken parts in the process
fluid were plugging and bridging the pipeline system. Their deboned,
round chicken parts had a tendency to lump up, causing the system
to grind to a halt. The result was a frequent need to dismantle
and cleanout the piping. Additionally, they were faced with plugged
pumps that required frequent maintenance.
When production schedules were not being met
and maintenance costs were skyrocketing, an urgent solution was
called for. That's when their engineers called on Franklin Miller.
Franklin Miller engineers, working closely with the plant personnel,
determined that a Pipeline Delumper strategically installed in
the system would most likely break the solids down before they
had a chance to agglomerate and bridge. Initially skeptical that
this inline unit could handle the difficult solids encountered
in their sytem, the plant management agreed to put a unit in on
an initial rental basis.
The results were immediate and impressive. The
solids and agglomerates were intensively processed and disintegrated
by the forceful intermeshing of the unit's cutting elements. Not
only did the frequent plugging problems cease, but the consistency
of the ground meat product improved as well. Additionally, the
need for pump tear down was eliminated almost completely. Based
on the results of the initial rental, the unit was purchased by
Maxton.
The Pipeline Delumper is an inline pressure
rated unit that employs a rugged bar grating and impeller both
constructed of stainless steel. The cutting elements were provided
with an optional fused coated hardfacing of chrome boride. The
unit is driven by an electric motor and drive. These pressure
rated units are provided with a choice of packings, double or
single mechanical seals or gas seals. The units are available
for pipe sized of 3" through 24".
